To Whom It May Concern:

If you’re looking to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month, here are 10 ways to start:

1. Share your story

Whether you prefer to share publicly or privately, sharing your story can make an impact even if it reaches just one person.

2. Educate others on breast health

Educating others, especially those outside of the breast cancer community, on self exams, self detection, risk factors, screening, self advocacy, etc. can save lives.

3. Support other breasties

Many breasties run their own projects and businesses. Extend a helping hand and spread the love.

4. Offer practical help to someone in treatment

If appropriate, offer practical help to someone in treatment such as driving to appointments, running errands, preparing healthy meals, or even sharing your Netflix password.

5. Volunteer

There are a lot of breast cancer events, especially walks, during October where your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

6. Collaborate with campaigns and brands

Work with brands that have strong ties to breast cancer and are transparent about the % of profits that are donated to breast cancer causes. A big red flag is when you’re asked to collab but not asked to share your story.

7. Donate

Donate to research and causes where your money will make a direct impact. My top recomendations:
– Metastatic breast cancer @metavivor
– Breast cancer precision medicine @bcrf @mayoclinic
– Your local cancer center
– Organizations that mean a lot to you

8. Fundraise

If you are unable to donate, help fundraise.

9. Consult with businesses and organizations

Provide your expertise behind the scenes before October and help leaders strategize the best ways to take action.

10. Take care of yourself

Take care of your mental health before/during/after October. This month can be really overwhelming, and opting out entirely is totally okay.

We all have different circumstances and views, so please remember to approach October in ways that align with you.

Our individual actions – big and small – can collectively make a difference!

Breast regards,

Michelle
