To Whom It May Concern:
Happy 2023!
I was reading through a lot of my past DMs, stories, and polls from 2022, and I realized the top theme we conversed about revolved around fear of recurrence.
As we start a new year, I wanted to start a series called F*** Cancer F*** Fear, where I will be sharing the different tools I use to combat fear of recurrence.
I will be releasing one short reel and a corresponding blog post every Friday for the next few weeks, starting January 6, 2023.
The reason why I chose the name F*** Cancer F*** Fear is because the common phrase we all know, #fuckcancer, is two words, and it just stops there.
We fight so hard to give cancer our middle finger, but I think this two word hashtag is missing something just as big that also deserves our middle finger: FEAR.
I want to stress that I am not an expert in this arena. I still struggle with fear of recurrence, and I still have my days when the fear paralyzes me, despite having different tools readily available in my toolbox.
Although the severity and frequency of the fear has significantly diminished overtime and although cancer has taught me many life lessons, I can say that fear of recurrence has been my hardest challenge as a cancer survivor.
My objective for this series is to share what works for me. We are all different, but I hope at least one thing will resonate with you. Please note that these tools help MINIMIZE my fear, but they do not always get rid of the fear completely.
I hope you enjoy my series and join me in giving fear the middle finger!
Breast regards,
Michelle
